Less than a year after opening, the Midcoast Athletic Center, tailored largely around basketball and other youth and adult sports endeavors, will close its doors.

The business is on Route 1/Atlantic Highway across from the Maritime Farms store on Short Street.

An announcement was made by owners Jason Sincyr and Cindy Sincyr of Warren on Thursday, April 23: “Due to current conditions, it has become apparent that the MAC needs to review its future engagement with the community.”

The announcement went on to state the “primary reasons for the closure include the recent extended COVID-19 and overall financial impact/outlook.”

“The MAC Board of Directors, staff and volunteers extend a special thank you to all who have been involved. A special thank you is extended to our donors and sponsors."

In addition to basketball — which included classes and leagues for various ages — the MAC had a room tailored for baseball and softball training with pitching machines and portable mounds, in addition to classes for Zumba, Pilates, yoga, barre, martial arts and kickboxing.

The MAC also had plans to begin senior fitness classes in addition to tumbling and cheering classes.
