Knox County reported no seasonal flu cases during the past week, the first time that has occurred in more than four months.

The Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention issued its weekly influenza report April 7, showing no new cases in Knox County. Since the season began Oct. 1, there have been 307 cases of influenza in the county.

Of those 307 cases, four people required hospitalization.

Statewide, there were 15 new flu cases for the week ending April 4, bringing the season total to 10,171. Of those 513 required being admitted to a hospital for treatment.

Deaths statewide from the seasonal flu since Oct. 1 totaled 38.

In comparison, there have been 519 cases of COVID-19 confirmed since the first positive test in Maine March 12.That number is likely much higher than the actual cases since many people who are ill are not being tested because a limited national supply of laboratory materials.

99 of those cases have resulted in patients being hospitalized. 12 people statewide died from the new virus in Maine. The first death in Maine occurred March 27.
