The Camden Town Office will close temporarily to the public from March 18 to April 2 as part of a COVID-19 response plan.

The plan, which includes emergency management, was released to the public March 16.

Town office business, public meetings

Town staff will continue to work either from the office or remotely, according to Town Manager's Assistant Janice Esancy, and residents and members of the public can still conduct business by telephone, email, mail or by using online services.

Residents who are only able to pay taxes, registration and licensing fees in cash will not incur any interest for late payments, according to a statement issued.

Taxes due April 16 should be mailed to the Town Office, Attn: Liz Knauer, P.O. Box 1207 Camden, ME 04843.

The Planning and Development Office will accept and process permits and payment for permits through email or mail.

The Code Enforcement Officer and Assessing Office staff will continue to conduct inspections.

The March 17 Select Board meeting will not be open to the public. The meeting will convene to open scheduled public hearings and postpone them to March 24, so the town can set up a system where members of the public can participate remotely, according to the statement.

The Thursday, March 19, Budget Committee meeting is postponed until March 26, in order to set up a system where committee members and the public can participate remotely.

All non-essential committee meetings are cancelled, according to the statement.

Emergency Management

The town is prepared to open an Emergency Operations Center to coordinate a community-wide response.

If the state imposes a quarantine, Camden will ramp up and expand its Good Morning Camden program where the Police Department checks in on elderly and/or homebound residents daily.

The faith-based community is identifying additional residents of Camden/Rockport to be included in this program. Should the need arise, the town, with support from the faith-based community, will send volunteers to these elderly or homebound residents to help with grocery shopping, transportation to essential appointments or bringing them supplies. These services will be conducted while striking a balance between ensuring these community members are cared for and minimizing their potential exposure to illness.

The town’s website will continue to be a source of information for residents and will be updated daily. Emergency Management Director and Fire Chief Chris Farley and Deputy Director and firefighter Matt Heath will monitor the COVID-19 pandemic constantly and work with management as needed.
