John Bickford Sr. passed away at the age of 84. He grew up on Vinalhaven Island.

He was born Sep. 12, 1935.

He was a best friend, father and rock to his daughter, Terra Bickford. He was a legend to her.

We went lobstering together for many years. He fought for his country in the Korean War, with his rank in the 82nd Airborne. He lobstered on Vinalhaven his whole life, and was a highliner.

His body was worn out from the amount of fishing he's done over the years. John was taken care of during his later stages of dementia by Terra and his grandchildren to the very end. He was a kind, gentle, proud and caring man who always helped others. He loved his family to the end of the Earth.

He joins his parents, Hilda and Maurice Bickford, and his two brothers Maurice Jr. and Richard, who drowned at sea at very young ages.

He is survived by his siblings Mary MacFee and Lucy Laura Hildings; children Maurice, Richard, Brenda and Terra Bickford; grandchildren Lila Rose, Sienna Adele, Austin, Tyler, Natasha and Maysie Lowe.

He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

"Love you Papa, rest in peace. You are the best father any daughter could ever ask for."
