At its Sept. 23 meeting, the Thomaston Board of Selectmen agreed to increase the agent fees for vehicle registrations.
Motor Vehicle Agent Donna Culbertson said the maximum permitted municipal agent fee has increased from $3 to $5 for re-registration and from $4 to $6 on new registrations in the most recent Maine legislative session and took effect Sept. 19.
Although the fee increase is not mandated by the state, the board agreed to implement the increase immediately. It was noted that customers can still go directly to the registry and not pay extra.
"It's a convenience," Culbertson said, for residents to be able to go to the Town Office to register their vehicles. She said the town does more re-registrations than new; regardless, it is a similar process.
Another increase, which is mandatory, is the fee increase for a duplicate registration certificate from $2 to $5.
