Thomaston Historical Society, Orient No. 15 Lodge of Masons, Lady Knox Chapter – DAR, Williams-Brazier Post 37 – American Legion, and Girl Scout Troop 1831 will sponsor the town's second annual Salute to Veterans reception Sept. 28 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the American Legion post behind the business block.

The afternoon will be full of information, food and fun. There will be a speaker from House in the Woods, a military retreat in Lee for hunting, fishing and recreational activities. The Thomaston American Legion is celebrating 100 years and will be displaying a lot of pictures and information on Thomaston. David Hessin will share briefly about his work with homeless veterans, including information on the success of the program.

The event will especially honor 10 World War II, Korean War and Vietnam veterans with Quilts of Valor, a national program that helps recognize veterans in honor of their service.

In addition, there will be a cookout. There will be tables and chairs set up, but those attending are welcome to bring their own chairs as well.
