An brief but intense storm knocked out power to more than 2,500 homes and businesses Wednesday night, July 31, in the Union area.

As of Thursday morning, 2,487 customers remained without power, according to Central Maine Power. The most outages were in Union, with 1,306 customers affected. There were 774 outages in Washington, 561 outages in Hope, 540 in Appleton, 45 in Rockport, 33 in Warren, and one each in South Thomaston and Camden.

The Knox County Emergency Management Agency posted Wednesday night that a squall tore through the middle of the county, taking down numerous trees in Union, and bringing pea-sized hail to Hope.

"Lobster Festival storm repellent mojo turned on full!" the post stated.

As of 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, only one house in Hope was without power.
