In gloomy, rainy, soggy conditions, Oceanside recorded its third straight shutout — again behind the lights-out pitching of Chloe Jones — en route to a 10-0 high school softball victory over host Camden Hills on Monday, April 22.

The Mariners improved to 3-0 on the young spring campaign, while the Windjammers dropped to 0-3.

Oceanside, ranked first in the Maine Principals' Association Heal Point Standings in Class B North, has outscored opponents 16-0 in three games.

Jones finished with a no-hitter to help keep the Windjammers off the board. The Mariners, who finished with eight hits and no errors, scored four runs in the first inning, one in the second, two in the third and three in the fourth.

Camden Hills made one fielding miscue.

Jones dominated from start to finish has she allowed no hits, one walk and struck out 20. She recorded her 500th career strikeout earlier this season and continues to pile up a boatload of additional Ks along the way.

Olivia Brown (7 walks, 3 strikeouts in 4 innings) and Lillia Stone (no walk, 6 strikeouts in 3 innings) worked the pitching circle for the Windjammers.

For Oceanside's offense, Kalli Grover (double, single RBI), Grace Pratt 2 singles, RBI), Chloe Jones (double), Abby Veilleux (single 3 stolen bases), Jessica Watkinson (single, RBI) and Autumn Harvey (single, RBI) led the way.

"Chloe Jones was unbelievable today," said Oceanside coach Rusty Worcester, as he added she allowed one walk and only the final batter of the game grounded out to second base.

Thus, of the 21 outs recorded by the Mariners against the Windjammers on Monday, 20 came via strikeout and the final one on an infield grounder.

"She has been unreal in three games," the coach said. "She has struck out 49 batters to one walk."

The veteran coach said the overall young, but again certainly plenty dangerous Mariners, continue to work and improve each day. In fact, Oceanside has a key road game at Brewer next, a rematch of last year's Class B North finalists. Oceanside is 3-0 and first and Brewer 2-0 and second in the region.
