Students of Rockport Dance Conservatory participated in the Dancers Inc. Regional Dance Competition March 9 and 10 at Noble High School. Ten RDC students competed over the weekend and were judged by level on technique, style and delivery of choreography, competing against other studios from all over New England.

Returning Competition Team members include Sydney Fields, Kelsey Guinn, Charlotte Hood, Ceci Tinch, Molly Jennings and Kirsten Jones.  First-time competitors include Leah Jones, Maggie Bruno, Abby Kopishke, and Jenna Yarosis. RDC Director Kari Cameron, Assistant Director Sally Leighton Cameron and staff member Hannah Olsen accompanied the dancers.

The weekend kicked off with the Teen Solo and Duo/Trio competition. Guinn performed a tap solo, “Come Together,” choreographed by Sally Cameron, and received a High Gold. Guinn and Hood received a High Gold and first place overall in their division for their Musical Theatre Duo, “Get Happy,” choreographed by Kari and Sally Cameron.

The Saturday morning started off with the Junior Duo/Trio Competition. Bruno, Kopishke and Yarosis performed “Girls,” choreographed by Kari and Sally Cameron, received a High Gold award and a special judges award for Costumes and Coordination. Kirsten Jones performed a contemporary solo, “Skye Song,” choreographed by Kari Cameron, and received a High Gold.

Saturday afternoon continued with the Junior Duo/Trio Competition. Dancers Kirsten and Leah Jones received a High Gold for their lyrical duo, “Ordinary Miracle,” choreographed by Kari Cameron.

Saturday evening began with the Teen Groups. Contemporary routine “Sound of Silence,” choreographed by Kari Cameron, received a High Gold. Dancers included Guinn, Hood, Fields and Kirsten Jones. Hip-hop routine “Slay,” choreographed by Olsen and performed by Guinn, Hood, Tinch and Jennings, received a High Gold. Wrapping up the evening was group number “Chaya Chaya,” a Bollywood inspired routine choreographed by Kari Cameron. Dancers included Guinn, Hood, Tinch, Jennings, Kirsten Jones and Leah Jones.  It received a High Gold and first place overall in their division.
