The Medomak Valley High School girls freshmen basketball team, led by coach Lindsay Ranquist, had another solid season on the court with an impressive 10-4 record.

Team members included Khyllie Cochran, Eliza Spear, Julia Kunesh, Baylee Stewart, Genevieve Thimlar, Autumn Boody, Ruth Havener, Bri Feyler, Rachel Gross, Grace White and Morgan Flanders.

Ranquist said this season was “tricky” as five of her players swung up to junior varsity, with some of their losses coming “when we only had six or seven players due to freshmen and jayvees playing at different locations.”

Despite a lack of continuity, the Panthers “fought hard and stepped up when given the opportunity,” including three “very close games against Messalonskee, Morse and [Mount Desert Island] in which we ultimately won by one point each.”

“For the past two years playing in the Busline League, this group of girls did not experience many close games,” said Ranquist. “So having to battle it out and learn those end-of-the-game situations was very valuable. Each game came down to foul shots and executing crucial plays down the stretch. I am incredibly proud of how far these girls have come in their basketball careers and the growth they’ve shown.”

White led Medomak Valley in scoring with 104 points, while Spear (86 points), Kunesh (78 points), Havener (55 points), Stewart (46 points), Flanders (36 points), Feyler (31 points), Boody (18 points), Thimlar (11 points), Cochran (6 points) and Gross (4 points) also chipped in for the Panthers.
