Elisabeth P. "Betty" Bohndell, 99, and a 76-year resident of Rockport, passed away peacefully Sunday, March 3, 2019. Born in Leutershausen, Germany, Betty came to the U.S. in 1935. Shortly after her arrival, Betty secured employment with the Walter Wolf family in Philadelphia, caring for their children. She soon became part of the family and lifelong friends, traveling in the summers to Rockport, where she met Henry F. Bohndell. They were married Nov. 7, 1942, and together they continued the successful family business, E.S. Bohndell Sails, until their retirement in the early 1980s.

Betty welcomed everyone into her home with genuine warmth and caring. Her specialty was her famous apple cake, made with her special recipe. She was a longtime parishioner of Our Lady of Good Hope Catholic Church in Camden and was an enthusiastic volunteer, ready to take on new challenges.

Beloved wife of the late Henry F. Bohndell, Betty was predeceased by her brother, Robert, her sister, Martha, and niece, Ortrud Meinhardt. She is survived by her sister, Erika Miltner; devoted nephew Fr. Helmut Miltner; nieces and nephews Christa Weber, Annemarie Kunkel, Robert Allgeier, Elisabeth Brand; and their extended families in Germany, Barbara Horan, David Thomas and Emily Meehan. Special acknowledgement and gratitude to her many dear friends and caregivers, including Pat and John Gibbons, Maureen O’Donnell, Annie Appleton, Nancy Boylan, JoAnn Kiaune, Gerd and Donna Hasal, Connie Milliken, Grace Stearns, Patty McGowan, the Young family and devoted neighbors Carl Mahoney and the Moro family.
