Maine Media Workshops + College in Rockport has received approval from the Department of Education to process federal financial aid awards for students in two of the Maine Media College programs: the MFA degree program in Media Arts, and the Professional Certificate in Visual Storytelling.

In April 2018, Maine Media was approved for candidacy status by the New England Commission of Higher Education, a step toward accreditation for the school. This affiliation status allowed the school to apply for DOE Title IV funding. According to the school’s press release, achieving affiliation status is part of the school’s strategy to diversify the population of students who are able to access meaningful certificate and degree programs offered in the Media Arts.

Since this is the first time that Maine Media has been able to process these awards, the approval is provisional for a one-year period and can be renewed once the school has proven it meets all of the financial and administrative requirements of the program for that first year.
