Maine's two senators, Republican Susan Collins and Independent Angus King, will attend the Maine Fishermen’s Forum reception and dinner at the Samoset Resort Friday, March 1, to listen to the priorities and concerns of Maine fishermen and recognize the importance of the fishing industry for Maine’s heritage and economy. The Fishermen’s Forum hosts fishermen, gear suppliers, scientists, government officials and other stakeholders to collaborate on all things fishing: markets, resource status, regulations, the latest in technology and the environment.

In July, King released a statement objecting to the Department of Agriculture's announcement that its proposed $12 billion in aid to farmers affected by retaliatory tariffs would not extend to the lobster industry. This week, King and Collins, along with the rest of the Maine delegation, wrote to Trade Representative Robert E. Lighthizer, calling on him to make the lobster industry a priority in the ongoing trade negotiations with China.
