Waldoboro American Legion to begin weekly open house March 5

WALDOBORO — American Legion Post 149, 181 Jefferson St., will launch weekly open houses Tuesday, March 5, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Refreshments will be served. All are welcome.

Broad Bay to offer Shrove Tuesday pancakes March 5

WALDOBORO — The public is invited to a free Shrove Tuesday pancake supper from 5 to 7 p.m. March 5 at Broad Bay Congregational UCC, 941 Main St.. The meal will feature plain and blueberry pancakes, with toppings and sausages. Beverages, as well as a small dessert, also will be available.

Owls Head Garden Club to hear about home composting March 6

OWLS HEAD — The Owls Head Garden Club meets March 6 at 11 a.m. at the Community Building, 224 Ash Point Drive. The club will hear a presentation on home composting by Liz Stanley of the UMaine Cooperative Extension. Stanley coordinates youth and gardening programs and oversees the Master Gardener Volunteer Program for Knox, Lincoln and Waldo counties.

All are welcome, and the meeting is free.

Talk on Buddhist teachings set for March 7

ROCKLAND — Rockland Shambhala, 16 School St., presents a dharma talk with Rachel Nixon March 7 from 6 to 8 p.m. Admission is free, with donations accepted. Refreshments will be served.

Nixon will talk about the six Paramitas, — generosity, discipline, patience, exertion, meditation, and wisdom — which, in Buddhist thought, are enlightened qualities of the heart. Followers practice the paramitas in daily life to attain enlightenment and freedom from suffering.
