When two former English teachers, Melinda Wildes and  Christine Parrish, who taught in northern China, were trading stories about Chinese street food like candied hawthorn berries and roasted sparrows-on-a-stick, they had an idea: why not invite all local and visiting English language teachers who taught in China to an informal happy hour to swap stories?

Wildes, who taught English in Changchuan (Manchuria) for a year from 1988 to 1989, and in Wuhan in 1999, and Parrish, who taught intensive English sessions in the port city of Dalian in 2003, invite former and current English teachers, and friends, who worked in China to a Buy-Your-Own-Drink social hour at the Camden Deli from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 22.

The Camden Deli is located on Main Street in Camden and is within walking distance of the Camden Opera House, the main venue for the 32nd annual Camden Conference which starts Friday evening and will focus on Chinese domestic and international policy. The unofficial happy hour at the Camden Deli is not affiliated with the Camden Conference.
