Happy Valentine’s Day. If you’re looking to add a little love to your life, we can help. We have a shelter full of animals asking “Won’t you be mine?” You can’t get any sweeter than our pet pick of the week Sansa. Sansa is currently meeting and greeting all the customers as a temporary resident at the Camden National Bank in Thomaston, our longest-running adoption satellite location. She loves to be right in the middle of things, so a house with kids would suit her fine. In fact, she came in with some kids of her own. Only two of her kittens are still at the shelter, the rest have been adopted. If you’re looking for a young, active, very affectionate cuddlebug, stop in and meet Sansa.

It’s hard to resist our other would-be-Valentine, Belinda. She’s a 2-year old  pit mix affectionately called baby hippo because of her roly-poly shape. Even better, she snorts and snuffles like a little pig and is the kindest, sweetest little girl who gets along with everyone – kids, cats and dogs. She's keeping an eye out for the perfect Valentine. Love comes in all shapes and sizes – Belinda is perfect proof of that. Might you have enough love in your heart for this snorty little gal?

Interested in volunteering with Pope Memorial Humane Society? The first step is coming to one of our volunteer orientations! Join us from 11 am to noon Feb. 16 for our monthly volunteer orientation in the PMHS Community Room. Learn about volunteer opportunities, have a tour of the facilities and complete the application if you haven’t yet. The shelter needs a lot of volunteer hours each month to make sure the animals are clean, dry and comfortable, and we’d love to have you join the team! Questions? Contact Volunteer Coordinator Kelly Gould at: 594-2200 or volunteers@hskcme.org.

Join us Saturday, Feb. 23, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the shelter as we celebrate International Dog Biscuit Appreciation Day. Why not, right? This free event is for all ages and a great chance to get out of the house on a chilly winter day to have some fun. We will be decorating homemade dog biscuits, using all pet-safe ingredients and making no-bake dog biscuits. Everyone will be able to bring their creations home or donate them to the shelter dogs. Plus, we’ll have a fun movie playing and some human snacks available!

To learn more about animals available for adoption or the upcoming events, visit our website at popehumane.org, follow us on Facebook or Instagram, or stop by and see us in person. We’d love to have you. We are open Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Wish list: Stamps, 9×12 envelopes, paper towels, latex gloves, trash bags (13- and 33-gallon.), address labels (5160/8160) and gift certificates to Amazon, Walmart, Staples, and other local businesses.
