Members of the new Troop 207 of Scouting BSA are working on the beginning basics of the Tenderfoot rank. The troop has started under the new guidelines of Scouting BSA, which include young women guiding their own troop. Troop 207 is a unit of only young women ages 11 to 17 years.

The older Scouts who are also part of Venture Crew 254 also recently participated in a pistol-shooting event at Camp Hinds, learning shooting safety and proper handling. A Venture Crew is for young men and women 14 to 21 years old.

Young people age 14 to 21 or who have completed eighth grade can join the Venture Crew. Both units meet at the Thompson Memorial School in Union Thursdays from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The adult leaders of the units are Mark Abruzese of Warren, George Freese of Newcastle and Jim Murphy Jr of Union.

All of the adult leaders have completed the required Youth Protection training and have a very successful record of helping Scouts achieve. They have been a part of adult Scouter teams who have helped more than 20 young men become Eagle Scouts. They hope to help young women to reach this unique recognition.
