Our pet pick of the week is Bippity. He’s a sweet senior boy who came into the shelter as a stray from Thomaston nearly two years ago. When he first arrived he was underweight and had no appetite. He was lackluster in both appearance and spirit.

A thorough medical exam and testing revealed that Bippity was diabetic. Once we balanced his blood sugar through diet and insulin, the real Bippity was able to shine. And what a sweetheart he is, a staff and volunteer favorite. He’s a gregarious boy who loves attention from people. A short stint in foster care revealed that he doesn’t like to share his home or his people with other cats, though. This boy is large and in charge and wants all the human laps for himself.

He does require insulin injections but we’d be happy to show you the ropes. Bippity is a pro and receives them like a gentleman. If you’re looking for a lovable and loving companion, won’t you consider Bippity? You won’t regret it.

There’s lots of fun lined up during February. On Saturday, Feb. 9, join PMHS at the Coastal Children’s Museum in Rockland from 10 a.m. to noon. PMHS staff will be there with some furry friends to meet and interact with and to answer questions about the shelter, the animals, proper animal care, adoption and the like.

The fun continues Saturday, Feb. 23, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the shelter as we celebrate International Dog Biscuit Appreciate Day. Why not, right? This free event is for all ages and a great chance to get out of the house on a chilly winter day to have some fun. We will be decorating homemade dog biscuits, using all pet-safe ingredients and making no-bake dog biscuits. Everyone will be able to bring their creations home or donate them to the shelter dogs. Plus, we’ll have a fun movie playing and some human snacks available!

And don’t forget that every Friday night in February is Burger Night at The Craignair Inn & Restaurant on Clarks Island Road in Spruce Head and proceeds support the shelter. Go ahead, treat yourself and help the shelter at the same time. Reservations are appreciated at 594-7644. Thanks for your support.
