Coastal Mountains Nature Program presents LiDAR – Revealing Maine’s Secrets at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, at the Camden Public Library, 55 Main St.  LiDAR, Light Detection and Ranging, uses laser beams to image the earth’s surface (and other objects) to produce a very accurate and detailed representation of the land surface.

Amber Whittaker, Senior Geologist for the Maine Geological Survey, will explain what LiDAR is, how it can be used, and the discoveries made with this technology.

Whittaker is a native Mainer who earned a Bachelor of Science in Earth Sciences from the University of Maine and a Master of Science in Earth and Planetary Sciences from the University of New Mexico. In her current work as a senior geologist at the Maine Geological Survey, Whittaker conducts bedrock mapping and assembles the bedrock geologic maps for publication.
