Library to hold children's event for Groundhog Day, Feb. 2

ROCKLAND — The Rockland Public Library, 80 Union St., invites youngsters to celebrate Groundhog Day Feb. 2 at 11 a.m. with stories, a craft and pudding cups. For more information, call 594-0310.

Souper Bowl lunch to benefit food bank Feb. 3

UNION — The Peoples United Methodist Church, 21 Depot St., will host its annual Souper Bowl luncheon Sunday, Feb. 3, at noon. The meal consists of a variety of homemade soups and breads made by church members.

A freewill offering will be taken and donated to the Good Shepard Food Bank. A donation of canned soups and chowders as well as crackers will also be taken and all food goods collected will be donated to The Come Spring Food Pantry, which serves Union, Appleton and South Hope..

Bookstore short-listed for Publishers Weekly award

ROCKLAND — Publishers Weekly announced the shortlist for the 2019 PW Bookstore of the Year Awards, and Rockland’s own hello hello books is one of the five nominees. These awards recognize outstanding contributors to the bookselling industry. hello hello’s owner, Lacy Simons, was present for the announcement at Winter Institute 14 in Albuquerque, N.M., Jan. 25.

The awards will be presented at BookExpo in New York City in June.
