Maine Coast Heritage Trust steward and naturalist Kirk Gentalen will lead a free animal tracking walk for all ages through Erickson Fields Preserve in Rockport, Saturday, Feb. 9, from 10 a.m. to noon. Fresh snow captures animal tracks, trails, and tunnels, providing lessons untaught any other season. Deer, coyote, fox, raccoon, and fisher tracks are all possibilities when Erickson is under a blanket of snow. Gentalen will also instruct how to look for clues to the presence of owls.

The group will meet in the parking lot of the Erickson Fields Preserve, 164 West St. (Route 90) in Rockport. Participants should dress in layers and wear appropriate boots for walking off trail in deep snow. Binoculars and cameras are encouraged.

No pre-registration is necessary, but RSVPs are appreciated. For more information and to RSVP, contact Joelle Albury, 236-2739 or jalbury@mcht.org.
