Five Town CSD Adult and Community Education has a wide range of free classes beginning in the upcoming weeks.

Big Brothers Big Sisters volunteer information night

Attendees will learn how to make a difference in a child's life right here in their own community. There are four choices for this one-night class, Jan. 29, Jan. 30, May 7 or May 8, from 6 to 7 p.m.

Integrated Education and Training CNA certification

This class is designed for those who are interested in beginning a career in healthcare; looking to obtain a high school equivalency diploma; are unemployed, or employed but earn near the minimum wage; are housing insecure or those who struggle with math and reading. Through a collaboration of area providers, local adults may be eligible for this educational offering. The anticipated program start date is Feb. 25.

Medicare 101

Instructors Anna Moorman and Jo-Ann Neal will answer questions including what Medicare does and does not cover, when to enroll, the difference between Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement Plans, and how to select the right plan. There will be a question and answer session following the presentation. This class is available on Feb. 25, from 4:30-6 p.m. or April 22 from 5:30-7 p.m.

Adult Ed Tutor info sessions

The district is in need of volunteers to assist with tutoring for students in various programs, even if it is simply one hour per week. This class, which will explain the tutoring opportunities, is taught by Nancy Nickerson, tutor for HiSET, College Transitions and ESL. Class dates are Feb. 12, from 10 to 11 a.m. and March 5, from 6 to 7 p.m.

Bus Driver info session

The one-hour class sessions will introduce attendees to the training and requirements necessary for the position of school bus driver. This class is taught by Julie Waters, the Transportation Director for MSAD 28, in Camden and Five Town CSD, in Rockport. The class will be held on March 6, as a drop-in session.
