The Camden Lions Club celebrated the three student winners of the local 2018 Lions International Peace Poster Contest at their Jan. 15 dinner meeting.  Jim Morse, who teaches sixth grade at the Camden Rockport Middle School and who has worked with the Peace Poster contest for 14 years, was also present.  The Lions encouraged the students to bring their families to the dinner.

This year’s poster theme is Kindness Matters.  Students who were 11 to 13 as of Nov. 15 were eligible to participate.  Students can only use hand-drawn images they create themselves.  The contest encourages students to creatively think about what “kindness” means in today’s world and offers a positive way for Lions to connect with community youth.  The winning local poster goes next to district judging and could go on to judging at the regional, national, and international levels.

After dinner, Lion Jerry Stone, who organizes the contest each year, shared the posters, announced the winner, and distributed awards of $100 each to the three students.  Cadence Ankers’ poster won, and Lea Zwecker and Charlotte Delehey were runners up.  The Lions thanked Jim Morse with a $100 gift certificate to a Camden restaurant.
