The downtown Farnsworth Art Museum is offering free admission to all furloughed federal employees during the current partial government shutdown. The current situation is stressful for the many federal workers throughout the country, said Farnsworth Director Christopher Brownawell, but Rockland, in particular, as a Coast Guard City, is witnessing these challenges first hand.

“We’re hoping we can offer a welcoming space to any of those dealing with this government shutdown and relieve even a tiny amount of that stress for as long as the shutdown lasts,” he said.

Federal employees affected by the current government shutdown should show federal ID at one of the Farnsworth’s admission desks to receive free admission for themselves and a guest.
