Midcoast Community Band will present its annual free holiday concert for the public Saturday, Dec. 22, at 2 p.m. at Thomaston Baptist Church, 212 Main St./Route 1. The band will offer a variety of sacred and secular music of the holidays including an opportunity for the audience to sing along on favorite Christmas carols.

Director Jo Anne Parker said she is constantly amazed by the talented people in the Midcoast area who choose to join the MCB, and this year is no exception. People of all ages and backgrounds are members, ranging in age from 16 to 80-plus, and the band continues to grow. Currently there are four local high school students in the group, plus several retired folks and local music educators.

“We are a true community band,” Parker said.

New instruments have been added this season — a set of three timpani, which really add to the band’s presentation. And with the chimes that were purchased last year, the percussion section is all set to ring in the holidays.

Everyone is invited to come and join MCB for this free concert — donations are gratefully appreciated — and take an hour or so from the hustle and bustle of the holidays to just listen to beautiful music. For more information, feel free to contact Parker at 372-6737.
