The Rockland Salvation Army will take part in a "Kettle Blitz" Dec. 13 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. with a goal of raising $40,000 for the day. The one-day campaign is a competition among Salvation Army corps throughout northern New England, including Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont.

Kettle Blitz Day is intended to draw attention to individuals and families who are struggling to survive. The Salvation Army assists them by providing food, clothing and, of course, toys for youngsters at Christmas.

The Rockland Corps will be taking donations at Shaw's in Rockland, Walmart in Thomaston and Reny's in Camden.
