The public is invited to an opening reception for a show of art by John Ruis Saturday, Dec. 15, from noon to 2 p.m. at the Searsmont Town Library, 47 Main St./Route 131.

Ruis, who lives in Hope, is a Broadway trained musician. As a visual artist, he uses digital reflective media to capture color, light, movement and energy. The art show at the library will feature photographs printed on aluminum in 8-by-10 and 11-by-14 inch formats.

Ruis’ show will continue through Feb. 23. Cookies and punch will be served during the reception, which will be punctuated at 1 p.m. by a raffle drawing for two gift baskets to benefit the library. Both contain various items with a Maine theme including Stonewall Kitchen products, Maine-made maple syrup, candles and more. The larger one also has a copy of Susan Orlean’s newest book, “The Library Book,” and a poster calendar by artist Alan Claude.

Baskets can be viewed at the library and tickets, $1 each, can be purchased either there or from board members. One does not have to be present to win.
