“The Sacred Garden,” an exhibition of paintings by Kathryn Oliver of Camden, is on view through Jan. 6 in the sanctuary of First Congregational Church, 55 Elm St./Route 1.

The public is invited to an opening reception Sunday, Dec. 9, from 2 to 5 p.m. Sound design with traditional carol arrangements by composer Marianna Filippi will accompany the exhibit during the opening, and Oliver will give an artist’s talk at 4 p.m.

The Advent season exhibition is inspired by the stained glass windows of cathedrals Oliver visited in Europe. The large tapestries are painted in a palette of blues and gold.

“In these paintings, I combine my passion for gardens with meditations on the Madonna,” Oliver said.
