Amy Wilton is December’s artist in residence at The Art Loft, 385 Main St., Suite 9 (lobby level of Thorndike building). She is offering Wednesday and Thursday drop-in mixed media classes that are free to members, $20 for others.

The first two-hour class, Found Objects Sculpture, takes place Wednesday, Dec. 5, at 10 a.m.; and Thursday, Dec. 6, at 6 p.m. Participants can bring old toys, household objects or anything else that speaks to them and breathe life into these old objects by creating a small sculpture.

On Dec. 12 and 13, in the same day/time schedule, Wilton’s mixed media classes will explore Collage. Participants will combine printed words, old artwork and anything else brought to the table. On Dec. 19 and 20, classes in The Canvas Expanded will combine traditional painting with found objects glued or sewn onto the canvas.

Also this month, local artist Nanfei Wang will host a Traditional Chinese Painting & Tea Appreciation class Saturday, Dec. 8, from 1 to 4 p.m. The first half of the class will focus on exploring landscape painting using Chinese brushes, ink and rice paper with an emphasis on rocks, trees, simple buildings and human figures. In the second half, participants will be treated to tea appreciation, sampling three types of tea; and discussing water temperature and times needed to prepare various teas.

Cost for the three-hour workshop is $35. For more information and registration, visit or call 200-7915.
