The Owls Head Transportation Museum hosts a free Christmas celebration Dec. 2 starting at 10 a.m.

The museum’s main display will be transformed into a winter workshop, with activity tables set up to keep children of all ages busy writing letters to Santa, making ornaments and decorating cookies. At noon, Santa will arrive by air, having temporarily traded his team of reindeer for one of the museum’s aircraft.

After the traditional holiday story reading, families are invited to gather on Runway 17 as the letters to Santa are packed into the special Polar Air Mailbag and flown by his helpers back to the North Pole, weather permitting. Then the Midcoast Community Band will get everyone in the spirit of the season with a holiday concert, followed by complimentary refreshments at intermission.

The museum's gift shop will offer holiday discounts during the event. Museum admission is free to all
