The Rockport property on Route 1 (Commercial Street) that was once the Libby Chevrolet dealership, may be broken up into separate rental units, according to a representative from the purchaser.

Douglas Clayton responded June 21 to an email inquiry about the future use of the property, saying that the company is planning to renovate the building and rent it out, most likely as a number of separate units, adding that the plans are still in a preliminary stage.

A warranty deed on file at the Rockport Town Office states that the property at 330 Commercial St. was sold by sold by Kolmosky #2 LLC to Rockport Center LLC on May 2. The property covers 3.5 acres.

Rockport Code Enforcement Office Scott Bickford said June 25 that his office has not yet received any plans of use for the property. He said that if the building is broken up into more than two residential units, it will automatically be considered a subdivision and will require a site plan review and consideration by the Rockport Planning Board.

Built in 1970, the property was last sold in 1999 to Tammy and Edward Kolmosky for $675,000. Last winter, the Rockport Planning Board considered a proposal by Rockland-based Midcoast Marine Electronics to relocate their business to the site.
