Every year, Main Street in Rockland is blocked off by the Rockland Police Department for the annual street/dock party to celebrate the impending summer solstice on June 21. This year, the party was held June 16, the weekend before the solstice.

The event itself lasts from late afternoon into the evening, with a minors cutoff at 7 p.m. During the early hours, it’s dancing in the street, face-painting, and glitter hair roots done by Sogno Salon to benefit The Hospitality House. Popcorn, lemonade and even an entire booth dedicated to fair food adorned the long stretch of Main Street.

Temperatures were high, but that didn’t stop some people from dancing to the multiple bands present. Parents were walking along with their glitter-rooted, face-painted toddlers and eating fried dough from the fair stand.
