The widow of former Regional School Unit 13 Board Chair Steve Roberts is being tapped to fill the seat he held.

Rockland Mayor Valli Geiger has nominated Vera Rand Roberts to fill the vacant Rockland seat on the RSU 13 Board.

The City Council voted unanimously to approve the nomination at its Monday, Feb. 12, meeting.

Vera Rand Roberts will serve through the next regular election in November.

Steve Roberts died Jan. 13.

He had served as chair of the RSU 13 Board since February 2014, when he succeeded Esther "Tess" Kilgour. His selection as chair came three months after he had joined the board, having been elected in November 2013.

There are two other vacancies on the School Board.

Thomaston's vacancy was created when Kella Rivers resigned in July because of business and personal time commitments. That seat will remain vacant until the annual June town meeting, when residents will elect a successor.

In South Thomaston, Jesse Butler resigned last month, also citing business and personal time commitments. That seat will be filled at the town's annual March town meeting.
