The Camden Snow Bowl hosted the Maine Junior Ski League for the first annual “Race to the Sea” middle school race on Saturday, Jan. 27.

The top three teams in the league participated in the event as a tune-up for the state championships, only a few weeks away.

The CSB staff labored to pull off an incredibly challenging race for 70 participants with little snow, said coach Weber Roberts.

In the end, Maranacook stole the show, as it bested Farmington Area Ski Team and the Camden Snow Bowl in girls and boys.

“We had so much fun with this race we are going to make it an annual event,” said Mike White, race director. ”Kids got to race two runs of slalom on a great course in the morning and then spend the afternoon free-skiing and schussing down the toboggan chute. What kid wouldn’t love that. I have a feeling that this event will draw many more teams in the future.”

The boys team scores were: Maranacook 15, Farmington Area Ski Team 32 and Camden Snow Bowl 33.

The girls team scores were: Maranacook 20, Farmington Area Ski Team 44 and Camden Snow Bowl 35.

Team scores are the place numbers of the top four finishers from each squad.

The combined times over two runs of slalom for CSB skiers included:

Girls — 4, Abigail Williams, 1:10.49; 6, Zola Roberts, 1:13.06; 11, Lily Stowe, 1:18.58; 14, Charlotte Taylor, 1:21.74; 16, Greer Lafiura, 1:23.94; 19, Ava Tobias, 1:28.23; and 20, Lizzy Larson, 1:30.92.
