One of the largest high school wrestling meets of the new year is in the books, after 13 teams, including the Oceanside Mariners, trekked to Ellsworth on Saturday, Jan. 20.

The team scores were not compiled, but squads that were represented included: Bucksport, Calais, Caribou, Dexter, Ellsworth, Fort Kent, Foxcraft Academy of Dover-Foxcroft, Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln, Medomak Valley of Waldoboro, Oceanside of Rockland/Thomaston, Penobscot Valley of Howland, Piscataquis of Guilford and Washington Academy of East Machias.

The tournament was a little different than a normal meet, with the event setup in a round-robin style format. Each weight class was divided into an upper and lower tier, as each competitor faced everyone in that group.

There were 228 total matches on the day — with Oceanside wrestlers partaking in 18 — and winning half of those, with a small number of team members.

The individual Oceanside results, with Mariners listed first, were:

106 pounds — Carter Fogarty pinned Mitchell Gower, Cal; beat Marshall Sawyer, Med; pinned Josh MacDougall, Med; and was pinned by Landon St. Peter, Ell.

132 pounds — Alex Fogarty pinned Aiden Manning, FA; pinned Deagan Eastman, MA; and lost to Gabriel Stone, Dex.

145 pounds — Noah Carlson was pinned by Cody Pellerin, Cal; was pinned by Alex Beaulieu, FK; and was pinned by Adam Barnard, Cal.
