Marie F. Kavanagh, 63, died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2018, at South Portland Nursing Home following a brief illness.

Born in Rockland May 5, 1954, she was the daughter of Ernest J. Kavnagh Sr. and Alice Molloy Kavanagh. Marie attended local schools and was a graduate of Rockland High School.

Marie took pride in participating in the Special Olympics.

She worked for a brief time at McDonald's in Rockland.

Marie could often be found walking around town and her jovial, sweet spirit connected with many.

She enjoyed word-search puzzles, knitting, reading and writing long letters. She was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and thoroughly enjoyed watching Rockland City Council meetings. Marie also was a huge fan of Elvis Presley and had many of his movies.

Marie was a communicant of St. Bernard's Catholic Church.

Marie was predeceased by her parents and a brother. Kevin E. Kavanagh. She is survived by five siblings, Colette Mathieson and her husband, James, of Old Orchard Beach, John J. Kavanagh and his wife, Theresa, of Owls Head, Theresa Kavanagh of Rockland, Ernest "Ernie" J. Kavanagh Jr. of Rockland, Kimberley Young and her husband, Christopher, of Owls Head; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and -nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family members.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 25, at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St., Rockland. The Rev. Robert Vaillancourt will officiate. Spring interment will be in Coughlin Memorial Cemetery, Rockland.
