Firefighting is in the blood of the Lowe family.

Patrick Lowe was promoted Thursday, Jan. 18, to lieutenant by the Rockland Fire Department. A brief ceremony was held at the fire station on Park Street.

Lowe has served as a firefighter/emergency medical technician with the Rockland department for 13 years. He had earlier served four years with the Camden department.

In addition to firefighters and police officers, family members were in attendance, including his brother, Andrew Lowe, who is an assistant chief in Camden.

Their father, Chris Lowe, had also served as a firefighter in Camden.

Patrick Lowe graduated from Islesboro High School in 1993 and later graduated from Southern Maine Technical College in South Portland.

He  said the excitement of the job and community service were what attracted him to the fire service. "It's not knowing from day to day what you will be doing," he said.

Rockland Fire Chief Chris Whytock praised Lowe's service to the community. "He's dedicated. This is well deserved," the chief said.
