Twenty-four Penobscot Bay YMCA Sailfish youth swimmers, also members of USA swimming, participated in the annual "Swim Your Own Age" meet on Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 13-14. The USA meet was hosted by the Westbrook Seals.

As the meet's title implies, swimmers competed against others their own age. Each swimmers swam three events on both days.

Swimmers ages 8 and younger swam 25 breaststroke, 25 freestyle, 100 individual medley, 25 butterfly, 25 backstroke and 50 free.

Nine-and-10-year-old swimmers swam 50 breast, 50 free, 100 IM, 50 fly, 50 back and 100 free.

Age 11 swimmers swam 100 breast, 50 free, 100 IM, 100 fly, 100 back and 100 free.

Swimmers age 12 swam 200 free, 50 free, 100 IM, 100 fly, 100 back and 100 breast.

Events swam by young pool athletes ages 13 and older included 200 free, 50 free, 200 IM, 100 fly, 100 back and 100 breast.

The individual events were scored first (worth 20 points) to 16th (worth one point) and tallied over the two-day meet. Trophies were awarded to the top-six female and male swimmers, overall, in each age group.

The 11 Sailfish swimmers who finished among the top six of their age groups included:

Boys age 7: Larkin Mott finished fourth with 77 points.

Girls age 8: Cora Gates finished fourth with 64 points and London Nicolet fifth at 61.

Girls age 9: Rowan Stewart finished third with 99 points and Hettie Binkham fourth at 84.

Girls age 11: Lily Mott finished fourth with 81 points.

Girls age 12: Emma Cyr finished fifth with 83 points and Sarah Van Lonkhuyzen and Kailin Fuller tied for sixth at 63.

Girls age 14: Sadie Woodruff finished second with 99 points and Phoebe Root third at 98.
