Fourteen voters and three guests braved the extreme cold and wind Dec. 27 to attend a Special Town Meeting in Washington.

Approved were changes in the town’s Land Use Mineral Processing Ordinance to allow water saw stone cutting under specific circumstances.

Usually prohibited by ordinance, the amendment will allow water saw stone cutting in the Farm and Forest District if, when the application is submitted, the Planning Board determines that certain conditions are met to minimize effects on the surrounding properties.

Voters also approved setting up two reserve accounts. One is for a future fire truck purchase set up with income from the 1982 fire truck sale last year, The other reserve account – set up from the balance of the Public Safety Account – is to help pay for a mandatory upgrade of the Fire Department alert system which will be required within a couple of years.

The town also appropriated $10,000 to purchase and install a new generator for the town garage.

Dave Martucci served as moderator for the meeting.

Nomination papers are available for one school board member and one select board member, each for three-year terms. Nomination papers need to be completed and returned to the town office by Jan. 22.
