Viewing photos from the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade in New York City, it was obvious the now-necessary heavy security presence wasn’t there to prevent drunks from harassing the marching bands. The same is now true of the Boston Marathon and other major public events. For a long time we’ve been told by the mainstream media (and until recently, some government agencies) that the perpetrators and their ideology are not to blame. Why, one must ask, what or who is responsible?

Paris, London, Brussels and several German cities have been deluged with terrorist attacks ever since the EU opened its borders to the flood of “refugees” pouring out of North Africa and Syria.

Now, consistent with their previously illogical national security criteria, some EU nations — Germany, Sweden, England — and even Canada, have expressed a willingness to accept former ISIS fighters (fleeing their defeat in Syria and Iraq) back into their countries. This is beyond stupid. No sane person should have the least bit of sympathy for these murderous thugs, let alone approve of their government's providing housing and welfare for these killers.

The security services in France alone are believed to be overwhelmed with the number of existing jihadists already in the country. If it is postulated that these repatriated terrorists are expected to reconsider their ideology and methods to become “normal” citizens … well, that is just delusional. Pretending won’t make it so.

Since 2009, Israel has suffered hundreds of terrorist attacks, primarily by Palestinian terrorists, many trained or sponsored by Hamas, a U.S. designated terrorist organization, the de facto rulers of the Gaza territory. Among the 156 people known to have been killed in these attacks were two Americans, Kristine Lukens in 2010, and Taylor Force in 2016. Luken, a U.S. citizen living in England and touring in Israel, was stabbed to death by Palestinian terrorists while hiking in the hills west of Jerusalem with a friend.

A Palestinian attacker began stabbing random Israelis at the entrance to the Jaffa Port, and wounded four people before taking off away from Israeli security guards. The attacker continued to stab pedestrians and motorists as he ran down a residential street, seriously injuring three people before being shot and killed by police. One victim stabbed by the attacker later identified as an American tourist, Taylor Force, died of his wounds in an Israeli hospital soon after the attack.

For the average Israeli going about daily life, the threat of murder from teenagers has ballooned in recent years. For some time, a trend promoted by Hamas (and the Palestinian Authority of Mahmoud Abbas through payment to families of terrorists) to encourage the very young to become terrorist attackers, starting with kindergarten-level play-acting, and graduating to terrorist training day camps, demonstrates nothing more than an absolute path to ideological brainwashing, death and destruction.

Recent examples can be found at the Jewish Virtual Library website.

Why go on about Israel's being a target for Palestinian terrorist attacks? I know there are some Jew-haters in Midcoast Maine. I’ve gotten hate mail from them before, and I am sure they’ll flood the online comments with more of the same now. There are two pieces of legislation meandering their way through the Senate and Congress that exhibit polar opposites in dealing with terrorism and its proponents. One is direct and common-sense: The Taylor Force Act, which demands that the Palestinian Authority end its policy of paying families of terrorists a monthly stipend. The U.S. provides the Palestinian Authority $300,000,000 annually, which is equal to what it distributes to the terrorist’s families.

The other, sponsored by 10 leftists in Congress, including our very own Rep. Chellie Pingree, is misleadingly titled “Promoting Human Rights by Ending Israeli Military Detention of Palestinian Children Act.”

To say this is the pot calling the kettle black does the kettle a disservice. The Palestinian Authority and Hamas have zero credibility when it comes to “human rights,” whereas the Israeli military and judicial system have an exemplary record, compared to anywhere else in the Middle East.

Liberal legal scholar Alan Dershowitz recently outlined the authority under international law for Israel to protect its citizens from any terror attacks, no matter the age of the terrorists. In detailing the colossal damage such stupid legislation as that Pingree is co-sponsoring could effect, Dershowitz points out the following:

“Palestinian terrorist leaders often use teenagers to commit acts of terror because they know that the Israeli legal system treats child terrorists more leniently than adult terrorists. Now 10 members of the "progressive caucus" of the Democratic Party are trying to give these terrorist leaders another reason for using even younger terrorists to kill even more innocent civilians.

So I ask: what do these members of Congress think Israel should do? If children as young as 13 or 14 were roaming the streets of New York, Los Angeles or Boston stabbing elderly women as they shopped at the supermarket or waited at a bus stop, would they protest the apprehension and prosecution of the perpetrators? Of course not. No country in the world would tolerate terror in its cities, regardless of the age of the terrorists.”

Maybe Pingree needs to recall the carnage at the Boston Marathon, and why it is that we now need sniper teams protecting the Macy’s parade.
