Sunshine and warmer-than-normal temperatures brought throngs of people of all ages to Rockland Public Landing's Middle Pier Nov. 24 for the arrival of Santa Claus.

Arriving via U.S. Coast Guard vessel, the jolly soul made his way to the corner of Park and Main streets, where he declared Downtown Rockland “Open for The Holidays,” with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. He was assisted by Mayor Valli Geiger, members of Rockland Main Street Inc., and several other town dignitaries.

Santa then made his way to his workshop in Mildred Merrill Park to greet children and hear what they wish to receive for Christmas.

The annual Festival of Lights celebration runs all weekend long, with the lighting of the Lobster Trap Tree at 6 p.m. Friday, judging of the storefront decorations and the Parade of Lights Saturday, and breakfast with Santa at Eclipse Restaurant Sunday.
