The Medomak Valley High School varsity football team may have finished the 2017 season with a .500 record, but its junior varsity counterparts did their part to show — and perhaps, prove — more victories may be on the horizon.

The Panthers, led by coach Ryan Snell, prowled to an unbeaten, unblemished 8-0 record against other junior varsity squads.

Snell said the Panthers “played strong defensively and attacked well offensively” throughout the campaign.

"The season went very well,” he said. “The kids started off strong and ended strong. It was a great group effort overall and we're excited about the future of this group. We have a lot of returning varsity players next year, so it should make for some very good competition for varsity spots next year with this group in the mix.”

Team members included Peter Alexander, Gabe Allaire, Lance Bennett, Alex Clevette, Teddy Colton, Garrett French, Wyatt Fillmore, Jakob Gess, Damian Henry, Zeke Hesseltine, Tyler LaRue, Sean Leigh, Jacob Light, Evan Mariano, Ben Martin, Nathan McDonald, Gage Seavey, Mark Springer, Colvin Standring, Jared Thompson and Ben Webster.

Scores from Medomak Valley’s contests included: Medomak Valley 40, Belfast 0; Medomak Valley 34, Mount View of Thorndike 6; Medomak Valley 14, Nokomis of Newport 0 (one half of play); Medomak Valley 8, Oceanside 0 (one half of play); Medomak Valley 28, Nokomis 14; Medomak Valley 28, Oceanside 8; and Medomak Valley 32, John Bapst of Bangor 0.
