Memorial Services will be held Saturday, Nov. 25,  at 11 a.m. at Shepherd of the Pines Lutheran Church for John H. "Charlies" Kjer, age 60, who passed away Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2017, at St. Otto’s Care Center in Little Falls, Minn. The Rev. David Edge will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church. Arrangements are with Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home in Sauk Rapids, Minn.

John Howard Kjer was born Nov. 18, 1956, in Tacoma, Wash., to John and Nila (Wilson) Kjer. He served his country in the Marine Corps and Air Force, and worked on Air Force One with President Gerald Ford. Charlie worked as a guard at the Knox County Jail in Rockland. He lived in Maine for 20 years prior to returning to Rice, Minn., in 2014. Charlie enjoyed watching the Vikings and Twins, hunting and fishing. He was quiet, had a good sense of humor and was proud of his work at the jail and his military service.

Survivors include his sisters and brother, Debra (Larry) Sexton of Halethorpe, Md., Duane (Julie) Kjer of Greenville, Texas, Janet (Kevin) Maleska of Rice, Minn., and Linda Bicondoa of St. Cloud, Minn.; and nieces and nephews Chris, Michael, Nicole, Amanda, Jenny, Adam, Candice, Joe and Amber. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A special thank-you to St. Otto’s Care Center and Heartland Hospice for their compassionate, loving care given to Charlie.
