Members of the Camden and Rockport fire departments responded to the parking lot of Peopleplace Cooperative Preschool Sept. 19 for a car fire at approximately 11:15 a.m.
The driver of the late-model Saab convertible said she was arriving at work at the Union Street school when she noticed the smell of smoke. Upon exiting the vehicle, she noticed flames above and below the hood, and immediately called 911.
The emergency responders, including members of the Rockport Police Department, as well as an ambulance, arrived at the scene within minutes. Two fire engines were on the scene, and quickly doused the flames, which had severely burned the car's engine.
No injuries were reported, and the car's owner was making plans to have it towed from the Union St. school at 11:45 a.m.
