The morning of Aug. 12 started with rain, but the clouds began to thin just in time for floats to line up for the annual North Haven Community Days parade. The parade kicked off the day's celebrations, which included a blindfolded rowboat race, codfish relay, and capped off with a street dance into the night.

The North Haven Lion's Club sets up along the parade route, selling food for hungry parade-goers. Cooper's Landing, currently the oldest of North Haven's restaurants, stays open late to accommodate thirsty revellers during the street dance.

While not originally part of Community Days, the street dance was started after the retirement of Lung Fest, an annual local music festival held at  Mullen's Head Park on the island's eastern side. The spirit of community, dancing, celebration and music lives on.

In addition to Community Days, the weekend also sees North Haven's annual Art Association Art Show, with proceeds from the sales going to support the North Haven Public Library.
