A new Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant EZ Launch® Accessible Transfer System donated by Camden resident Elinor Klivans is ready for use at Hosmer Pond.

The Camden Parks and Recreation Department installed the launch system, which allows people with disabilities to experience the joy of gliding on the water in a kayak or paddling in a canoe on Hosmer Pond.

The launch makes it easier for people with disabilities, especially those with limited use of their legs, to launch and dock paddle craft such as kayaks and canoes. A transfer bench and transfer slide boards allow users to sit, slide over and drop down into a kayak or canoe, and then use the launch's side rails to pull out into the pond.

“I hope that a lot of people find out about it and enjoy using it,” Klivans said. “It is my hope that people, who could not get out on the water previously, can now use the dock to once again have access to the water."

Hosmer Pond is located at the Camden Snow Bowl, 20 Barnestown Road. The boat launch is open for use by the public at no charge.
