University of Maine Hutchinson Center and Midcoast Leadership Academy will offer a nine-month UMaine certificate program designed for current and emerging citizen leaders in the Midcoast.

Applications are now being accepted for the 2017-2018 class (MLA8) that begins Sept. 21. Classes will meet on one Friday per month. Continuing Education Units and contact hours are available.

Each program year, individuals are chosen from Knox and Waldo counties through an application process that aims to provide diversity of thought, knowledge and experience within the class.

MLA brings together emerging and established leaders to sharpen current skills, develop new ones, broaden understanding of pertinent community issues, build networks, and form the relationships necessary to sustain a strong Midcoast community leadership base.

During the nine-month program, existing and emerging citizen leaders from Knox and Waldo counties will meet monthly to sharpen and develop effective leadership skills and broaden their understanding of issues affecting the region, including healthcare, local government, the creative economy, education, state government, traditional economic drivers, the justice system and our unique communities.

The Midcoast Leadership Academy has a growing and diverse alumni base of over 120 leaders across Midcoast Maine and beyond. The Unity Foundation is a sustaining partner and Bangor Savings Bank is the lead program sponsor. Sponsorships are still available.
