Kevin Johnson, photo archivist for the Penobscot Marine Museum in Searsport, will present “Warren: The Postcard View; Selections from the Eastern Illustrating & Publishing Company” Tuesday, Aug. 1, at 7 p.m. at the Warren Historical Society, 225 Main St. in the village. All are welcome.

The slide show and talk comprises a short film about the postcard company, as well as the historical views of Warren and surrounding towns. The Eastern Illustrating & Publishing Company was founded in 1909 in Belfast by Rockland native Rudolph Herman Cassens. His goal was to photograph small towns and rural areas from Maine to California, producing “real photo” postcards made from glass plate negatives.

Last year, Johnson along with Maine State Historian Earle Shettleworth and Maine historian William H. Bunting, published “Maine on Glass,” which examines the Maine portion of the Eastern Collection. Copies will be available for purchase for $31.60. More than 100,0000 thousand images from the Eastern Collection, as well as other the museum's other collections, can be viewed online at penobscotmarinemuseum.org.
