Three people suffered non-life threatening injuries Monday evening in a head-on crash on Route 1 in Warren.

The crash occurred shortly after 5 p.m. July 17 on Route 1 near Sandy Shores Road.

According to the Knox County Sheriff's Office, witnesses reported that Joseph Kennedy was in his vehicle stopped facing northbound waiting to turn left in traffic. April Pease, 28, of Pittston — driving a 2006 Chevrolet sedan — was traveling in the same direction and was unable to stop in time.

Pease swerved to the right to avoid hitting Kennedy's vehicle from behind and lost control of her vehicle. She swerved towards the ditch and apparently over-corrected, going around Kennedy’s vehicle into the southbound lane and striking a 2011 Honda sedan almost head-on.

Richard Zauft, 63, of Sudbury, Mass., was driving south and could not react in time to avoid being hit by Pease.

Zauft and a passenger in Zauft’s car, along with Pease, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport. Pease was issued a summons for an illegal pass.

Assistance was provided by Knox County Regional Communications Center, Warren Fire and Ambulance Department, Waldoboro Ambulance, and Thomaston Ambulance.
