This year’s Culture Camp at Penobscot Language School allowed campers ages 7 to 13 to “visit” China, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Portugal, Russia and Spain through a variety of hands-on activities.

Camp projects included decorating carnival masks, rowing with the Apprenticeshop in Rockland, making trajineras (Mexican boats) and practicing Chinese paper-cutting and calligraphy, all while learning about the culture and language of the day. Campers also prepared an ethnic lunch appropriate to the culture of the day. Dishes included pasta, cannolis, Chinese dumplings and picaditas.
